About the Blog

Purpose

This is only one of a series of sites that have sucked me in to the whole “social networking” thing, and officially my first attempt at creating a blog.

The purpose of the blog, one way or another, is to eventually promote my fiction.
This particular blog is kind of an “assorted details about the author” site. It initially focused on my progress during NaNoWriMo, but I’d since begun adding posts about my writing gadgets and reviews I’ve written of other people’s books.
I have another blog, Pioneers of the Shattered Waters, that focuses on specific stories and/or series.

History

I started out trying AdSense on my own website (Google Sites), though I planned on writing some content that wouldn’t use ads.
I planned that WordPress would host the ad free topics, and my Google site could host the ad-enabled ones.

Then I started NaNoWriMo in 2010. I worked on BlogSpot more than here…not out of any kind of loyalty, but because I simply didn’t want to bother logging in to multiple accounts each day to update my progress.
So I set things up so that this site could “mirror” the BlogSpot one.

Fast forward to February of 2012, my Master’s Degree was almost done, and I was continuing to look at my online options.
I was looking at the possibility of simply using WordPress to host my website, and doing away with Google sites.

It wasn’t even a lot of work. Most of the old pages had become irrelevant over time, or simply weren’t needed on the new site, and could safely be deleted. The rest was a matter of migrating and updating the content.

Maybe one day I’ll be able to afford my own domain. A proper website, rather than a blog masquerading as a website.
Then, web addresses will be changing again.
Until then…I think I want to try the “WordPress.com as web host” idea for a while.

While I’m at it, maybe I can get some more work done on the “social” part of this social networking.
I think I’ll start by editing my older posts and making better use of the tag feature….
